Know your school choice options in Washington.
In the Seattle Public Schools District (SPS), students can attend their neighborhood schools or request other district schools (called intradistrict choice) through the open enrollment process; applications are due in late March. Nonresident students may apply to Seattle schools, but priority is given to students already in the district. The district has “alternative” schools that either provide more specialized instruction or assistance to at-risk students. Gifted education services are available for elementary, middle and high school students.Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, students attending a Title I school designated as “in need of improvement” have the right to attend a higher-performing school in the district.
