In the Greenville County Schools District (GCS), you have the option to attend your neighborhood school; a charter school; or a magnet school that focuses on such areas as language arts, math, science and technology. (Deadlines vary, but some applications are due in early February.) The district offers “limited school choice,” and parents wishing to enroll their child in another school must complete a request form. Applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis, and space is limited. The district also provides early-education services, an International Baccalaureate (IB) program, online classes and alternative programs for at-risk students.Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, students attending a Title I school designated as “in need of improvement” have the right to attend a higher-performing school in the district.
