The building is outdated, outmoded, and not well-thought-out to begin with. Apparently, 1970s architects didn't believe children needed sunlight. Class sizes are larger than ideal, and the budget leaves a lot to be desired (most of which is made up out of teachers' and parents' pockets). Despite all this, Kate Mitchell has managed to attract a great principal, great staff, and an amazing faculty. My son came from a Waldorf-method preschool, and needed a lot of help transitioning into mainstream public education. His teacher, Autumn Seiler, has been there for him every step of the way. Also, when problems arose with my son's after-school Spanish program, I got a call back from the principal the same day, and the problems were resolved by the next morning. The people at Kate Mitchell are top quality. Renovate the building and fix the student-teacher ratio, and the school will be top-quality too.
