It is an excellent school with strong accademic course work. Like many public schools could have a better annual budget and better teacher salaries. Lacks an athletic field and gym equipment. There is only one professionall built combination basketball-Volleyball-tennis court. The school could have more support with the art department.
My child came to DCS from a tough, under-achieving school, having mastered looking like a thug and acting like he didn't care. He was accepted because his grades were acceptable but only as a result of his previous schools low standards. Not surprisingly, his transition was a difficult one. He was suddenly in a setting where high grades and good manners were cool. By the end of his first marking period it seemed sure that he would fail-out. Happily MS. Sullivan and his teachers saw the light he had hidden inside. They let us know that all wasn't lost and worked with him. Believe me he struggled but never under-estimate the power of caring tachers and staff to inspire your child. The 2nd marking period he just made his required GPA. The following year he made the honor role. When he graduates this year we will miss DCS.

A top notch scholastic enviroment. I've always felt that an organization's 'tone' and quality filter from the top down. This school is no exception. The principal, Mr. Gary Meredith, is very 'hands on'; so much so, I wouldn't be surprised to find out he lived at the school. He is very dedicated to his work and always strives for excellence--thereby setting an example which permeates the entire school. Mr. Meredith has an 'open door' policy for parents and is very receptive to their concerns. In short, he's a good guy.

Homework load exceeds the normal amount of time children should spend doing homework every night and weekends. Some teachers are well prepared and like teaching the students, others do not know how to teach nor are interested in teaching. The administration does not take the time to analyze when a parent presents a concern. The administration is not open minded and think they are right all the time. Lots of parents have concerns that they do not express because they are afraid of the consecuences.
