St. Bernard High School is an excellent college prep school in Playa Del Rey. The school AVEAS Learning Program is unique in its learning concept and has risen the overall academic standards to a new level. St. Bernard has quietly sent students to IVY League schools such as Dartmouth Brown and Georgtown. St. Bernard Drama department is probablly one of the finest high school drama and dance department in the southbay. The atheletic program has placed it's football team in the playoffs during the 06 & 07 (07 Div X Semi Finals) Boys Basketball also follows in the line of competivie teams with appearance in the CIF Championship Game in 2006. The current principal and staff are dedicated to improving all facets of life at St. Bernards. The school will continue to grow and thrive at its onw natural rate.

St. Bernard is an excellent academic school which truly does prepare your child for college.Counselors are very tentative to ensure every child has fulfilled their requirements academically for graduation and college.Among certain teachers can be better equipped with an accuracy of responding to emails accordingly. Participation from parents is A-1 along with safety and discipline. There extracurricular could be better but your not paying for activities your paying for an utmost education which it does provide with results. However, what concern me most is that this is a Catholic tradition high school not Christian nor Baptist in which others tried to implement those religions upon the catholic faith. Class 08! A greatly involved parent at St.Bernards since my child was accepted.

I have 2 children who graduated from St. Bernard and am now on the 3rd and 4th. This is a great school, the dance program is excellent. Although they do not have a winning sports team, they do have the program available. I like the uniform program, although I still think the kids push it a little to the limit. I believe that there is a good mix of academic and extracurricular activites and the parental involvedment is excellent!

St. Bernard was not my first choice in what high schools I wished to attend. It did grow on me after the first year or so, however. As mentioned before, the drawing point for much of Bernard's hype is the Drama Dept. Some of the best productions, often matching the quality of a top-produced Broadway show or play. I must admit that after four years academically, though, I could have been a little better prepared. The AP curriculum differed from the Honors courses in name and testing only. Athletics are decent; Track has a high rating with CIF entry every year, as is Basketball and Volleyball; don't expect much from the football program. All in all, this school was decent for me; I'm in college now. But for parents, I urge you, keep your options open, and seriously consider your choice.
