My 5th grade grandaughter was spending a few days with us when I picked her up from school on Friday Oct 9th. She was all excited about a project she had done in Science. She wanted to do more so Saturday we went to Home Depot to explain what she needed, pipe covering. Then at Target we purchased 3 rolls of masking tape. She spent the weekend making roller coasters for a marble. Our living room was covered with masking tape, tubing and marbles. She even had her cousins over and all three of them made roller coasters. It reminded me of the 'good ole days' when kids shared their ideas and tried different things without an adult, referee or written rules. The experience was well worth the messy living room and the less than $10 it cost for the materials.
I am the mother of a recent first graduating class child . My seond child will attend for a second year being in 3rd. My daughter will be at Walker this next year. Hammond is great in many ways. The teachers are awesome. The only thing I dislike is the uniforms now. Alot of people can't afford a seperate wardrobe for school. There were a few rules that were crazy too. Like even the 5th graders can't get up in the lunch room to get a fork if they drop it....WHAT??They are older and need to learn to behave and act. Can't teach them that if you treat them like the kindergarten class. Other than silly rules they got a great education and learned alot....
