This school is amazing! It is only my third year here and both my children are excelling in class and on the sports field. My son struggles as a reader and they were able to give him the confidence he needed to succeed. He is now in 4th grade and reading Harry Potter without prodding.

Assumption is a great school with dedicated, highly-qualified teachers. Parents are very involved. An excellent religious education program (starting with pre-K) is offered on Sundays which includes preparation for Holy Communion and Confirmation. Class sizes are 35 or below; and for grades K-4 there's a teacher and an aide, as well as parent volunteers for art, computers, drama, library, etc. The school has a brand new science lab. The Youth Group does a lot of community outreach, as do the rest of the students. Graduating students score highly on entrance exams and get accepted to academically challenging high schools. Few schools can boast about 1) their basketball team playing at the Staples Center in the CYO Finals and 2) being first in Deanery in the Academic Decathlon and 3) having an awesome pastor (Fr. Gerard O'Brien) and principal (Ms. Christine Hunter)but Assumption can!

ABVM is the best kept secret in Pasadena! I am a teacher in the public schools and what I see my children learning in the lower grades in comparison to the public schools or many of our local private schools is incredible. When my husband called many of the local high school counselors to see how prepared are the Assumption children. They all said that the Assumption children do extremely well in comparison to the other children. Also, they stated that the Assumption children test higher on the H.S. entrance exam. Parent involvement is required. The teachers are great, the principal is incredible and Father Gerard is supportive. We're very happy.
Assumption students score above national averages. The school is small--one class per grade. Parent involvement is strong. Faculty and staff seem competent and dedicated. The only significant short-fall is the lack of a foreign language program. The school could also benefit with the addition of a hands-on science lab. My daughter traversed K thru 8 at Assumption and absolutely loves the school, its teachers and staff.
