I had a very bad experience working as an educator at this school; so much so it turned me off to teaching for awhile. The administration is a mess and I am sad to see that this school is giving other charter schools bad names.

My children attended this school for two years and the extracurricular activities where wonderful. Our family very much enjoyed the family atmosphere as well. This schools major weakness is academics. This school has a tough time retaining good teachers. The turnover is high and the kids are not really learning much in the way of academics, but they are learning what it means to be good citizens. There is a lack of supervision and accountability from the school as well. We took our children out of the school because of the concern that they were not learning (academically) what they needed to know. We took our children to be tested we found out that they were grossly behind in their academic learning for their grades. We would never refer any of our friends or family to attend this school, and we will probably never consider another charter school again.

Looking for a good public education. Civicorps Charter School has been a great experience. My daughter is in kindergarden and she comes home happy and exciting everyday (well almost everyday). She has a loving teacher that has been able provide a positive learning environment to meet the needs of all academic and emotional levels. the afterschool program has also been an enriching experience. She does art, martial arts, dance and has developed quite a bond with the staff. I feel the school is a safe environment, it is diverse and the community has been open to suggestions to add to their program. From day one the school staff new who I was and what child I belonged to and they have always made me feel welcome. Also an added plus is that they are in the process of establishing a middle school.

If you looking for a good school for your kid in west oakland(on the internet) you need to go down there and see the East Bay Conservation Corps for yourself. It's a great chater school I gruated in 05 with a class of about 40-50 students and got my high school daploma. If you want to get your daploma or GED it's a lot of work here, but the more you put in the more you get out, also you can get good job experience working during the day with the EBCC and then going to school at night. You must be self-motivaion to complete a HSD or GED
