I am a parent with one child having graduated from SHS and now a freshman there. The principal seems very involved. The teachers are mostly awesome, with a few exceptions. The sports programs receive a ton of community support and there is a lot of parent involvement. You can really tell that parents in the area care. In the five years we have been in Sandpoint we have not personally been involved with any negative issues with safety or discipline. My only negative comment might be that the counselors should do a better job of preparing the students for college. I realize the parents need to take the initiative here. If the parents do take the initiative I'm sure the students will be fine.

SHS is a school trying to clean up its act. It still has a long way to go and often times I do not agree with the adminstration's policies. Some teachers are well qualified, but too many are still employed and need to be given the boot or greater accountability. Some spend too much time trying to handhold those who have no amibition to better themselves after high school, and in doing so, they bring the quality of the class way down. The low budget school system lacks the ability to properly educate kids at either end. Advanced and basic classes are often cut due to budget constraints. Be warned that tax payers in Sandpoint are not generous!!

I would not want to put another kid through this school! It is poor at best! The teachers are only interested in trying to get kids to pass the classes and could care less about if they learn anything. The only sports program that is any good is wrestling. All other sports are way to influenced by who is friends with who! I would look at Couer D alene area the schools are much better!
