While I attended NSHS, I thought it was a good school. We had AP classes, and I was in all honors courses. However, it was not until college that I realized how little I had actually learned in high school. With the exception of math/calculus, I felt behind in my college courses. I do not believe this school adequately prepared me for the research and writing levels required in college. I struggled with papers in college because I was not taught in HS. Individual teachers were not a problem. In fact, many were wonderful, but there were definitely problems. Again, the math and possibly science department were fine. One calculus teacher in particular was fantastic, but I do believe she has since retired. Hopefully, North Side has changed since I graduated.

My name is Allyson and I attend North Side High. I just finished up my spphomore year, and I'm really looking forward to my junior year. North Side has definitely changed from how it used to be. (I know because both of my older brothers and many other people I know attended NSHS.) But it is not as bad as everyone tries to make it out to be. Many people try to say that it's nothing but a war zone. On some days, that can be true; but not overall. There are great people at NSHS, as well as some not to great. You just have to go into it having a level head. So far, I've loved North Side. I've met some great people and had some great memories. I've definitely gained some lifelong friendships. And I've learned a thing here and there along the way. :]
My impression overall (as I have transferred here from one of the top ten high schools in the country) is that Northside High School, is a poor excuse for a school in general. Northside lacks decent teachers, or stimulating academics. From the school district I transferred from a 6th grader, could do the work I'm doing as senior. I never have homework, and I spend most of my class time reading books I buy for pleasure, because the school work is anything but challenging. My sister who is now a law student at Vanderbilt, had homework constantly in high school, and so did her fellow classmates, of which nearly half went onto Ivy League Schools. I can not wait to graduate and join my sister at Vanderbilt. And in case you were wondering I'm a straight A student!
