Lee High School s a wondeful school to attend. The magnet program offers the best real life performance experience available and all of the students in the magnet program receive outstanding awards and scholarships to colleges. There are numerous extracurricular activities available for students. The administration is strong and very disclipined. Although the facutlty and staff offers great opportunities for the students to be able to suceed in life and in school, there is nor enough parental involment.

Lee High has not received the attention from the school board or the superintendent. There is an apathy toward Lee that would not be found in other parts of the city. AP teachers are finding it difficult to stay. They are leaving to find other schools in which goals are defined and support for improvements and providing students with the best possible education is possible in an environment conducive to learning and teaching. The building needs maintaining or at this point replacement. It has had some of the most motivated and wonderful teachers who have prepared students to go to higher education, but without the support of the school board and principals these teachers will move on to schools where support is found and will be able to teach once more in an environment that will support them. It is very sad becuase it is the child and community that suffer.

The AP teachers and classes are good. The magnet programs are average - they could be found at Huntsville High School or Bob Jones. The decline in the building itself is shocking. Unfortunately, the school seems to be in a downward spiral. It has experienced frequent turnovers in leadership and the faculty seems tired.

This school has a wonderful magnet school program for fine arts. The drama, art and music departments are outstanding and second to none in this city. The student ratio shown is accurate --about 60% black and 40% white. There are drawbacks to this school, unfortunately. Some of the students there seem to thrive on racial remarks against the minority enrollment. Its sad, but its true. The parking lots are a nightmare in the afternoons with the stereos blaring so loud that your own car windows rattle. They need some parking lot rules at this school -- not only for students, but also parents.
