Upon my daughter and I returning to Marvell from North Carolina, her class was going over work she had already mastered the year before. I have been very disappointed with the education system. Issues include overcrowded classes; mixing of middle school age children with upper classmen; lack of classroom management skills and effective teaching techniques by staff; and suspension of student for infractions with no alternative means of continuing the education process (community center placement, real alternative education). There are no extracurricular activities for elementary students which lends to no progression to high school (i.e. band, drama, sports, clubs, etc.) These activities normally serve to motivate students and enhance learning. Activity periods no longer exist and athletes are penalized for participating in sports. Parent involvement is very limited. It is verbally solicited but there is no welcoming atmosphere. There is a desperate need for an organized parent group (PTO/PTA) with staff support.
