as a parent of two children who attend galax i am verry concerned with the safty of my kids.The school is undergoing rentovation.The school is not clean,the food is pretty bad.My outlook on the school is the kids are running the school.The teachers are great.But everyone seems to have trouble keeping the kids in line.Boys wearing paints hung to the knees,girls dressed in SHORT cloths.Looks like someone needs to take control.
I am a current senior at Galax High School and I firmly believe that this is the best high school in the area. Despite the small size, Galax excels in both athletics and academics. Through programs like the Linwood Holton Governor's School, the Southwest Virginia Governor's School, and AP and College classes, I have been able to study above and beyond high school standards. Galax may have few immediate resources, but the administration strives to push students to a higher level of achievement.
I dont agree with the other reviews either you dont really know anything about the school unless you have recently been there i believe the teachers and principals are really awsome and with an enrollment of 450 how can a staff of 40 keep that completley under control your going to have some fights no matter what but really has calmed down
I am a recent graduate of the school (05) and I disagree with the reviews. The classes are challenging and the teachers interact well with students. Principal Sturgill is probably the best thing to happen to that school in quite some time. He always sought the advice of students to get things changed. When the old principal was there, there were fights all the time. Last year, there were two. Maybe three. Students complain so they get their way. Don't buy into that stuff right off, parents. Parents need to be more involved if anything.
