I'm a lucky parent who had the option of choosing private schools when my daughter was little. From PreK through K, 3 years, she attended a fantastic Mandarin program in SF. She loved it. We speak no Chinese btw. Needing to move south, we worried we might have to end our daughter's Mandarin schooling. By chance, I drove by CP's campus and saw the 'Mandarin immersion' sign. I was skeptical. I did a ton of research and brought M to visit classes. Wow. Now enrolled and in week 3, we're loving it. Teachers, principal and parents are creating a lively, challenging and supportive environment for kids from all backgrounds. Families run the gamut from well educated parents who chose this program over other 'high scoring' schools, to hard-working neighborhood Latino families. You must look past the scores and pre-remodel buildings to see the story here. The word is spreading. CP=outstanding.

We enrolled in the kindergarten program to give our child an academic challenge by learning Mandarin. We were prepared to supplement our child's education in other areas as needed. It was rough during the first three months as the teachers had to assess all students. Six months into the school year, our 5-year old is now reading chapter books and is completeing word problems for Math homework. We did not believe the school could provide differential learning for the children but we were wrong. Not only can our child read, write and speak (sing) in Mandarin, the core academic classes have been a wonderful surprise. Initially, we were hesitant to write a review as we were hoping to keep this school a secret for ourselves but we felt it wouldn't be right to not recognize the wonderful instruction the faculty is providing the children. We see potential in the school and are exicited to witness the school's growth.

Our daughter joined College Park's GATE program in the 4th grade last year. To those parents whose child is identified as gifted and are considering this program, our advice is, 'There is no better learning opportunity at this grade level that we know of in the Bay area, than the GATE program at this school!'. The principal is the perhaps the brightest, most open and approachable principal we have ever come across. The two GATE teachers constitute a great teaching team and care deeply about instilling the highest values and train students to be exceptional independent learners, a skill that will make them very successful in school and life. The peer group that you will child will learn with is a set of highly gifted children who inspire each other to reach higher levels of intellect in the spirit of a good team. We plan to send our younger son here.

Nowhere will you find a more dedicated principal. The staff, teachers and parent support are all open to new ideas. Child nor parent feels like a number at College Park. The principal makes a point of knowing everyone well. It took a while for my child and family at adapt to the change of a new school but after being a part of this developing school masterpiece it is clear it and we are on the right track. The level of higher and broader thinking is so refreshing after being plugged into the system in our other school for years. As a volunteer it is great to learn from others and be listen to instead of feeling like just a body filling a spot. If you are willing to be a part of your child's education... College Park School is great opportunity if your child's future.
