I graduated from CV this year and as I look back on my four years at this high school, I can say that I have had a great time have learned so much. The academics are wonderful and the students are very intelligent. This enviroment helped me to achieve much more than I would have, had I attended another school. There are plenty of extracurricular activities and the students are also very active within the community. They are not afraid to speak up for what they believe is right. It helps because the teachers are very supportive and will often engage them in these conversations.
This school is not as good as it thinks it is. The district is very poor at communicating with families and very unwelcoming to families moving into the area. They do a poor job with the gifted program and has nothing to brag about.

This school's facilities are top knotch. The hallways are wide, the floors tiled beautifully, and the auditorium and sports fields rival those in many colleges. Cons: Academically, this school is not nearly as competitive as it would like you to think, especially for advanced students. Although there are many course offerings, any attempt to step beyond them, at least in my experience, has been highly scrutinized. I've heard that this has changed somewhat for the better, which is comforting news. However, a more endemic problem is that CV 'feels content' with the academic performance of its top students. I can speak of experience in the math and science departments mainly and say that they gave little encouragement or assistance to people attempting to go above the curriculum in research or math competitions and the like. For its size, CV sends pathetically few students to elite schools.

I am graduating in 2010 from cumberland valley and have been in this district since kindergarden. The sports in my opinion are phenominal. We have some of the best athletes in the area. And as for the size, it really dosen't bother me. The numbers sound huge but you dont even notice it. All of your classes are primarily in one hallway. The teachers are great and really do care about how you are doing in the class. People act like we are such a big party school and have all of the troubled teens. When in reality , adults just pay more attention to the students, so they get cought doing things they should'nt be doing. Any other high school has just the same amount of problem kids, the adults are just oblivious to what the teens are doing behind closed doors. This really is a great school.
