We are a military family and this is my daughters 6th school that she has had to transfer to. This school has made her feel the most welcome that she has felt in years! There is great communication with teachers, and an overall sense of community. I would highly recommend this school.
In response to the parent who recommended against attending Eagle River High School if your child is an athlete, that is one of the main reasons the sports program is under-developed. Being a new school, Eagle River HS has suffered the growing pains of seceding from an established sports powerhouse, Chugiak HS. As a result, we watched family after family zone out or move out of the Eagle River district so their child can participate in the stronger, established sports programs of Chugiak. While this is certainly their prerogative and I find no fault with it, I do have trouble hearing these same families talk about how weak our programs are, when half of their starting team lives/lived in our school zone. The Eagle River program is well run and will only improve with time.

We are a military family and two of my children have graduated from ERHS. The facility is wonderful and the teachers have good communication with parents. Being smaller and newer than other schools, they do not offer all AP courses, and the sports programs are still growing, but my kids found what they needed and had many opportunities to participate in activities because of the smaller teams and classes. Eagle River is a great place to bring your family, too.
I think ERHS is a wonderful facility but I am not impressed with the Principal and the level of dedication to the extracurricular activities and the development of a sports program. The Activities Principal seems unable to push the school to the next level and get it involved. Overall the school is good but if your son/daughter is an athlete or committed to sports I would not recommend it.
