As a tutor for a first year student at Junction Middle School- I have found the teaching staff in Math has not done an adequate job of connecting the various math subjects with one another - topics seem to be taught as individual and unrelated topics and the students need to understand the way that the topics tie onto and grow into one another. In other areas students are given the crutch of open book tests - I understand that we want the students to get over their fear of tests - however, students tend to rely on having access to this information and do not seem to understand that the book refernce is not an excuse to eliminate studing - it is to be used only as a crutch that helps him/her through the that test 'scare' that they feel.
