This school is lacking when it comes to 5th grade. Both of my childrens self esteem suffered during their 5th grade year. They have one class that consists of 54 students and 2 teachers. That class was awful!! I'd say 97% of the parents did not like one thing or another that the kids had to go through both academically or emotionally. The principal, a nice man, sided with the teachers and didn't do much to help. First Grade is Great!!! Nice transition from Miller. Music and Art (Mrs. Plath and Mrs. Meyer) are wonderful. We will miss this school but not 5th grade.

My daughter went thru with no issue. My son, having an LD and ADHD has struggled and it's been very difficult. Some of the teachers seem to be 'better' more informed and patient in recognizing a child with an LD. Some of the teachers have never been educated on LD so they don't understand or know how to teach these children. Hawkins Elementary has lots of room for improvement for teaching children with learning disabilities.

Mr. Yates was a wonderful man. This is one of his students. I am now in Highschool and I look back and see what a difference he has made in my life. thank you so much Mr. Yates!
