Gateway is a small, diverse college preparatory school with high standards. Similar to some small private high schools, the faculty and staff know the students well. While Gateway offers support for learning differences, it also offers AP classes and encourages students to aim high, setting the tone on the first day when 9th grade students visit U.C. Berkeley for a keep your eye on the prize experience. Students are well-prepared for college. Faculty and staff are committed to helping the students succeed; teachers provide tutoring during lunch or after school and are approachable by students and parents. Their profiles are impressive and can be seen on the Gateway website. The principal is a strong leader who maintains a culture of achievement and support and is accessible to parents. College acceptances have included: all UC campuses, Boston University, NYU, Smith College, Mount Holyoke College, Tufts, Oberlin College, Mills College, USF, etc.

Gateway is extremely organized, and I'm so excited my son is attending. The first day of school is just for freshmen. They are welcomed in, embark on a tour of school, and then taken by buses to visit either UC Berkely or Stanford! What a great way to 'show and tell' our students the reason they are attending a college prep school and to awaken them from the first day, what they will be working hard toward the next four years. The advisors have called our house to introduce themselves and welcome our student to Gateway, in the first week. I don't know if San Francisco school parents really realize what a standout high school Gateway is. I feel grateful my son was accepted, and so does he. With 22 students per class, it's easy to make friends AND learn well. My son is a 4.0 student, sky's the limit at Gateway.
