Just started this year with a 6th grader. We're not only pleased with the school but espically the new principal, Mr. Dolan. I think he's doing a fantastic job. Keep up the good work......remember it takes a village to raise a child.
I am an 8th grade student at Mattawoman Middle School. And all I can say is that Mattawoman is disappointing. The school is un-orderly, most of the teachers and staff are rude, everything (desks, cafeteria, gym, etc.) is outdated and needs to be repaired, and the principal is always unaware/clueless as to what's going on. There is a lot, and I mean a lot of he say/she say drama. If your the type of parent/student who is not into drama or doesn't want their child getting into drama, please on't send them here. Overall, this school is ok, but not the best. It needs major improvement.
As a former student, I can safely say that I greatly enjoyed my 2 and some odd years at Mattawoman. The teachers and the majority of the students were nice and helpful. I had fun in the student council last year and the year before that. Its too bad that I moved, otherwise i'm sure my brother would have loved the school!!
This is our second child to attend. Over the space of several years there has been little if any improvement. Most negative comments are right on the mark concerning staff and administration attitude and expectations. Moral and values of most students is low. Theft, fighting, poor attitude rampant. School needs a real overhaul. Academic achievement very anemic. Staff/Adm talk the talk but they don't walk the walk. More dedicated to their own concerns about the pay scale/benfits/retirement packages than student achievement and goals. Lacking in many ways compared to other schools we have seen on other assignments. Very disappointing. Don't see much hope for improvement. Typical of most of Charles county system. Select living in this schools area cautiously.
