The school really needs to be renovated. Since there isn't enough space some kids are taking classes in trailers and/or hallways. This can be very distracting. I really don't hear from teachers unless I initiate contact or my child is in trouble or having difficulty with a subject. Most of the teachers we've had so far seem okay. I don't find the principal very responsive or cooperative when working with parents. The school is very behind in the area of technology in the classroom. Overall, I'm really not impressed and dread having one more year with one child currently attending this school plus another child who will attend this school in a few years.
I won't say all but some of the teachers are informative and do keep me apprised of my childs academic behavior. I am extremely pleased because one of them is his math teacher. She is on the money with the children. Works hard to make them understand the math concepts and offers herself for tutoring on a weekly basis. She also does email homework on math and occasionally has included other major projects in other courses. If I could clone her Hanson would be a five star school.
I have had children enrolled at John Hanson for 1 1/2 years now. Thus far I have been pleased with the education my children have received at the school. My children were placed in the enrichment classes and this seems to be a better environment in which they can learn. My children report fewer distractions in these classes than in the general classes. The principal and the vice-principals are responsive and seem to really care about the school and their students.
John Hanson Middle School's Principal and staff have taken a step toward helping students to achieve excellence in academic achievement. The teachers and the guidance counselors are ensuring the students are meeting over and above the requirements in their subjects. With great team work nothing but success can be the outcome.
