I love Warsaw Middle school because of the diverse culture that we teach. The students and school are located in a very low income area, but that does not matter. The students are rich in wanting to learn and even though they do not have the advantages that other schools have like wireless internet or laptops for students they do not care because they want an education to better themselves and their world.

Presently, I teach at Warsaw Middle School. We have suffered many changes in personnel;however, we continue to provide a quality education for all students. The classes are small and affords teachers the opportunity to individualize instructions and assist the students in the whole learning process. Warsaw Middle School offers tutorial and other activities to students in the after school hours. Students that score 1's and 2's on the EOG's can participate in the 21st Century Program Monday through Thursday. This program also offers non-educational programs for the students. Karate, 4-H, Computers, and Fashion Modeling are just some of the extra classes offered. Students are also given the opportunity to sign up for team pride and receive help with homework and other issues facing the middle school students. Talent Search tutoring is offered through James Sprunt Community College to assist students with studies and more. WMS is a great school. I love my job.

I have had children at Warsaw Middle School. In fact, one child just graduated from there. Both of my children have either been on the Principal's list or the A/B honor roll throughout their middle school years. I am satisfied with the teaching staff and administrative staff at the school. The teachers have always had an 'open door' policy. The school is racially unbalanced, but I don't have a problem with that as long as they have the same opportunities as other children. I believe you can be 'seperate but equal.' All schools will have discipline problems and just overall problems, as any school would. I am pleased with the success my children have had at the school.

Warsaw Middle School is not culturally diversified. When I attend award day ceromonies there are only a handful of white students attending the school. The staff have their hands full with the alarming number of students with discipline problems. My child often complains that it is difficult to learn in such a chaotic environment. Parental involvement is needed. Many of the parents only come to the school when their child is about to be suspended. The Board of Education of Duplin County has made it impossible for parents to transfer their children out of the school because they were offered a choice at the beginning of the school year. I attended Warsaw Middle when I was my child's age and I did not realize the full extent of the changes that have occurred through the years. My child will be there until the end of the school year unless I move because that is the only way to transfer a child from there, thanks to the Duplin County Board of Education.
