I'm a senior at this school and the best word to describe DV is elitist. While DV has good test scores and produces a great deal of national merit semifinalists, the majority of the teachers and students really couldn't care less. The regular classes at DV can be considered remedial at best. While some of the AP/honors teachers are amazing, most of the teachers make no attempt to inspire students or even to get them to pass classes. Half of my teachers seem to hate what they're doing because they've been forced to teach certain subjects due to budget cuts. The administration is highly unproductive, slow to reply, and blatantly authoritarian. You can often find the secretaries and assistants gossiping with each other while students wait to speak with them. Overall, DV an okay school that is over rated because of its test scores.

10 for 10...DV is the place to be. Always classy. The teachers are great and push students to do and be more!

I have had 2 children attend DV - 8 years of involvement. My experience has been the same as most. The administration provides an excellent environment for those students who are self-disciplined, motivated and athletic and academic achievers, which I am fortunate enough to have 1 of. However, not much time or energy available for those who are just 'average', and for those who are 'special needs', again, unless they are interested in being a basketball team manager (1space). Not much emphasis on their experience. If your student is a 'super-star' this may be a school that has something to offer you. We, the long-time residents and parents refer to it as the 'haves and have nots' school. I don't believe a publicly funded school should be so exclusive. The administration shares these same behaviors with the parents of each student class, as well. Keep looking...

Great school with high standards. My child was more than prepared to enter a university after attending 4 years there.
