Woodley Hills Elementary School

My 8 year old is about to begin her 4th year at Woodley Hills and I have a Kindergartner starting also. I am sure I will never again find such a caring and involved public school principal as Ms. Aldredge. Every teacher, whether full-time classroom or extracurriculars, has been very good at communicating everything I need through emails, by phone and in person; and also treating each student as an individual-educationally & behaviourally. This is extremely important, for as a parent I am not there for this part of my child's day and their behaviors, social interactions and learning style tend to be different in each setting. Parent involvement here is also very commendable. There are stay-at-home moms/dads and many, many full-time working folks that give very generously of their time. As a Community of Caring school, core values are stressed and it shows in every student and faculty member.

We are in our second year at Woodley Hills and I am thrilled with the education our son receives. The science lab is great. Students get an education that is tailored to their abilities. My son tested well above grade average in reading. He is pulled out and reads with two other students in his grade level at his reading level every day. Most schools would have just grouped the kids in 2-3 reading groups per class. The principal is fabulous. I love the racial/ethnic/religious diversity in the school.

I love this school. There is such a sense of community and family starting with the principal all the way down. Everyone has a smile and a kind word. They are always open to having visitors and make you feel welcome. I also like that they are a math and science focus school. My kids love it and will miss it when we move next year!

I have already sent 2 children from Kindergarten through six. My last child will start the 5th grade in the Fall of 2007. So far we have had a wonderful and fulfilling experience. Being a school that is so diverse can be either a negative or positive experience. I have found it to be a positive and a very enriching experience for my kids. The teachers have for the most part have been right on about my children's strong and weak points. The Principle and Vice Principle have been very supportive and were quick to act on any concerns that I might have had. Like every school you will find some negatives but the positives out way the negatives by far. My only wish is that more parents get involve with after school events or just helping out in their children's classroom.
