Glenwood Intermediate School

This school does not live up to its over-exaggerated repution. If you consider instilling superficiality in children, buying ridiculous 'technology' like 'interactive' white boards instead of buying new computers, not to mention promoting bullying as characteristics of a great school, then this is a great school. Children are judged on who they are, not what they achieve academically. The Administration in this school really should educate themselves on a lot of issues and start being proactive. This school has turned out to be a big disappointment for me and my family.

We've enrolled our child in several different schools (private/public) across the US and this is by far the worst. Such high property taxes to supposedly pay for such a better education. Preparation for the ISAT's is very minimal. Computers at the school are ancient, the art program is low budget. If you like diversity in a school, this school isn't for you. Certain teachers at this school degrade the less fortunate kids in the class - this only precipitates ridicule by other classmates. As opposed to popular 'local' belief, this school isn't a great school - it has a long way to go to become a great school. Mindsets have to change in the community first.

Heard so many wonderful things about this school before moving into the Chatham District. We had a great 'first' impression, unfortunately that soon changed. Here are the FACTS about this particular school that you will eventually find out yourself: People are very clicky, not to mention EXTREMELY superficial. The school's rep is OVER EXAGERATED. Their technology is old, teachers are not involved in disciplinary action and let the kids police themselves. Bullying and harassment is way too tolerated. If your child is ever involved in any dispute with another child, he will be punished even if not guilty. I don't feel my child has been challenged in the least and any answer will do, ie, no workings are required in math and full sentences are not requested - just the answer! I don't really consider this quality work nor do I feel they are being properly prepared for their future.

We are new to Glenwood Intermediate school moving from a private school to a public one. This was definitely a great decision for our family as GIS has a wonderful set of teachers and a caring and highly involved principal and assistant principal. The level of options available to us has been staggering. My children love attending music, art, after school sports and other extracurricular activities. Their is a noticeable difference academically between private and public. I find that the public school system has a lot more hands on activities for learning and also measures weekly/bi-weekly how students are doing. This allows for students to move up in class or get the help they need. Our children are very happy and flourishing in this school. GIS is a terrific school and I would highly recommend it to anyone making a decision of moving within this school district.
