There is a sence of family at this school. Dr.Thurman is outstanding! Whenever there's a function, the parents.grandparents, aunts ,uncles and other family members are in attendace...most times standing room only. Dr Thurman will trully be missed by many. Congratualtions to Dr.Thurman on her retirement!
This school is awesome. Dr. Thurmond makes this one of the BEST grade school's in the district. I've been in this area for 10 years. 3 of my 5 children have attended Holman. It is a great no tolerance for confusion school. The teachers are phenominal and they teach because they care NOT just because they are getting paid. If I could, I would pay them to have a pay raise to teach my children. The extra curricular activities that they have in place to enhance learning is so awesome to me.

The children in this school are greatly underserved. There is limited space and each grade from 1st through 4th is assigned to only one room. Within this setting ratios are maxed out and teachers do not have the appropriate resources to meet the needs of the students. This school is also extremely MAP driven, losing focus consistently on the individual needs of the children. The teachers seem to lack diversity training and children are constantly being labeled and given negative feedback. On the postive side the music teacher (Mrs. Vargas) is incredible! She clearly has an artisitic vision and never ceases to put on amazing productions with the children.
