This is my child's first year in public school and in Charlestown Elementary. Unfortunately, the experience has not been pleasant. Although the student teacher ratio is rather small, some of the children that need extra time and attention seem to get pushed aside and labeled very quickly. I think the small size sometimes leads to many social 'clicks' and causes unnessecary stress on the students. I hope this improves with time, but is extremely hard to watch a child go through as such an early age.

My child was at Bayview in the first quarter before we moved to Charlestown. We didn't have any complaints about the previous school, but noticed a dramatic difference in how much further ahead Charlestown was and my child had some catching up to do. Especially in reading words and math. I can see that the teachers take more time w/correcting papers and they appear to be much more involved.

Charlestown Elementary is a fairly good school. They have on average I would say about 14 or less students to teacher. Even though they have a new principle this year so it is a little too soon in the year to tell, my only real complaint of last year was there inability to schedule things and give proper notification. However they have a lot of very nice programs for the children involving the arts, and a seemingly very friendly staff. Also the teachers all seem to have real involvement and appreciate when they have parental involvement and support.
