Applegate Elementary School

I went to Applegate School when I was younger and loved it. When I had kids I knew I wanted them to have the same close knit schooling that I had. There is so much to be said for small schools and the camraderie that you get from them. The staff and teachers are the best!! If you have any concerns they are taken care of immediately and they know your child very well whether they are a straight A student or one that needs the extra push. The principal and teachers will meet with you daily, weekly, whatever you need to help your child. Love this school!!

I was a problem kid when I was young and went through most of the Eugene/Springfield schools. Now as a parent with two kids in school, I really appreciate how the teachers at Applegate Elementary work with my children on more than just one level. One of my kids loves school and one is just like I was, always bored. My intelligent bored child gets the attention he needs to get him involved again. The only complaint I have, and it is a small one, is that the teachers could stay in better contact with the parents.

My children have attended Applegate Elementary. I am a child welfare worker, have been in all the schools in our area. Applegate is, in my opinion, right up there with the best of them. I am continually impressed by the dedication, professionalism and attention teachers at Applegate display. Kudos also to most teachers in the other schools in our area (Southern Oregon). Applegate is an integral part of this rural community and has a history and presence that leads to support and attention to events from alums who graduated there many decades before. A good school is more than a building, teachers and books and Applegate is the school I wish I'd been able to attend 40 years ago. Applegate's current principal is outstanding! Like many teachers, she works many more hours than she's paid for and really cares for the children and the community. What a great school!

There are very few parents for the amount of students that are willing to help. Our children are our future, a couple of hours a month is worth it's time to help support the kids and school. By supporting the school, your are supporting your kids. Call the school or the parent group and see if there is anything you can do to help. One of the teachers seem like She is there for the paycheck, not the kids. We all realize with the budget cuts all teachers are required to handle more children in their class, which is sometimes hard without aids, but we all need to think if these kids and their education, if that means staying after school and helping the ones that need it, then lets find a way to do that. We need to get away from combination classes. These do not help kids. We all, teachers and parents, need to fight for our schools, small country schools are important to this country of ours, and we need to stick together to make this a GREAT School, that I know it can be.
