I have had my kids in private and 2 different public schools, and I have never been more happy (and my kids). Burnett is a great school with great teachers and staff. Please do not let the statistics mislead you.
I chose this school because I like what I saw when I visited it. The teacher my child has is amazing, and the principal is very pasionate about the children receiving the best education; I've never met anyone like her; One word, Wow! She has given me new hope in the public education system. I thought the 'no child left behind was a joke' till we entered this school. They do whatever it takes to make sure each child gets the best educaton possible.

My children started school here in September 2007, and we have been very pleased with the teachers, principal and staff here! Please don't rely on simply the school scores alone, when deciding on a school for your children!! Or, you might miss out on a great school! I believe the scores at Burnett are lower because there are a lot of children that are starting school here where English is their second language, and they struggle with catching up, which lowers scores. The lower scores do not automatically indicate bad teachers, or a bad school! The teachers are great... very easy to talk to, and they really care about the kids. When the kids need extra help the school is very supportive in helping get the kids into extra programs that might be available for them. The behavior of children on the playground is highly monitored, and they have zero tolerance for 'bullies'.

I am a proud teacher at Burnett Elementary. Besides teaching in our classrooms, we volunteer extra hours for school-wide activities that focus on making the school experience richer for ALL students. We take the responsibility to differentiate seriously and follow through with high expectations in reading, behavior, homework and academic success. We have a daily Language Arts switch that allows teachers to focus on appropriately leveled content for each student. We have an active school-wide GATE program. We have a dedicated Home & School Club that raises money for field trips and 6th grade Science Camp. We also have music for 4/5/6th grades, an active Student Council, PE challenges/activities and friendly competitions between the classrooms to increase student involvement and instill pride in our school. Our school just celebrated our 150th anniversary; with students, parents, teachers, and administration participating in school and community activities based on this achievement.
