Good in the lower grades in the acedimics. The school has highly qualified and very strong teachers in their teaching skills. Only thing is the school spirit is not very strong since the buildings are departmentalized. It is great to be deparmentalized because the kids will be challenged more with teachers being competative between each teacher. Alva is a political town and some people say it is hard to get to know others around town. Alva schools is a great place to raise kids in because even thought it is small it is one of the bigger schools in Northwest Oklahoma. The plus is there is a college close by and there are always observers in the classrooms or helpers. The school uses Saxon math in the lower grades and I am not sure about the older grades. I like Saxon math. The town is supportive in reading with reading awards.

We had moved here from out of state, and I was greatly surprised about the thoughtfulness of the faculty and the students with helping my grandson learning where everything was. My granddaughter started Kindergarten here and I wouldn't be able to say enough about the Washington Elementary School faculty on helping her to adjust to new surroundings. Thanks a million to all!
