The school does alot with the little they have to work with. The staff is open to discussion and trying to accomadate special needs kids.

My child has a disability and this school has been very supportive and willing to work with us to help him unlike the North Thurston district. His teacher is wonderful and communicates often. I am a little disappointed with the music and arts offerings and lack of special student presentations, i.e. holiday events, plays, etc. but the curriculum is good overall. The principal is a wonderful, caring man who really loves these kids. I am not a fan of the 'Make Your Day' discipline program at all and I wish they would scrap it completely! My child's psychiatrist feels it is detrimental to all children, not just those with disabilities. I am happy to be in a school with such a caring staff though, so until the district recognizes that this program is not a good choice, I will live with it and just keep stating my opinion.

My oppinion of this school is vey dissapointing. My child has gone to this school since 1st grade and i have not seen any improvement. Most of my childs teachers since 1st grade have not wanted to help my child in the areas that are needed.Though this school may be good for some children it isn't the best. This school is more worried about the wasl than it's students. This school sends home wasl practice sheets so that the kids will get a better score.Rather than actually teaching the kids most of the teachers would rather send home massive amounts of home work that take arround 4 hours to complete after school.

Elma Elementary is a school with very good academics, I believe their math program is especially good. However, the discipline system that is currently used doesn't seem to encourage good behavior, only focuses on the negative. Principal Connie Ford is going to be leaving the school, and she is the one, I believe, who endorses the 'step' program. It may go with her. Over all, though, I think it is a good school.
