My daughter has been here since 1st grade and it's a fairly good school. Teachers are good, not many extracurricular activities at all and that's sad. There is also not much of a program to deal with bullying and that's also too bad as it is greatly needed. The principal is very, very dedicated and devotes her life to the job. I love that students learn a foreign language in 1st grade! What a great start for them!

I went to Brookwood as a child and now my own children are attending this year my youngest daughter starting in 2nd grade she is doing much better this year so far then where we were before. My oldest is in 3rd grade and we had a rough start for many reasons but the staff being so wonderful helped us get over the hump. She now comes home happy and has made friends.

I could not be happier with Brookwood School, Miss Henry, Mrs. Newhouse, and all the wonderful teachers that have helped [my daughter] excel! She is a very good student, thirsty for knowledge always and I find that she is quite satisfied with the curriculum at Brookwood Elementary. I also have a granddaughter, who is attending Brookwood... and she is doing very well also. the teachers go out of their way to help both [girls] . I've been a mother for many years. I have 5 children, 3 are adults. I have much experience with many other schools, having attended some of the best private schools in the City of Chicago myself, and I must say I have no complaints at the time with Brookwood. (running out of room)! ~Shirley Dalzell

I had one child attend the Elementary School since 1st grade, one child since 2nd grade and the third child started in the Middle School (5th Grade). As of the 2006-7 school year, all three of my children have made the transition from the Elementary School to the Middle School. There is a noticeable 'gap' or 'learning curve' between the two schools. The Elementary School does a poor job in preparing their student for the Middle School. Thankfully, the Middle School has excellent teachers in 5 - 8th grade and they are able to have success with the students. The oldest child benefited 1 - 4th grade at another school, so 5th grade was a 'repeat' of her prior 4th grade. My two younger children went to Brookwood Elementary and they are above-average students and I still noticed some struggling the first semester.
