The teachers, staff, and parental involvement make this school great. Students are educated as individuals as opposed to some schools' one-size-fits-all approach. As noted below, Hanawalt's class size is growing and it lacks sufficient space to solve the issue in the short term. Long term, open enrollment will be limited.

I used to consider Hanawalt a 5 star school. However, class size this year is ridiculous thanks to open enrollment so I'm only giving it a 4

Amazing teachers. My daughter is in First Grade and this school feels more like a private school. I am very happy to have her in this school. In comparing to other friends with children in surrounding communities, I feel like my child is learning more.

Strong emphasis on basics - reading, writing, math. Recently renovated school also places high importance on art, music and physical education. High value on discipline and courtesy. Serves as site for autism program where kids are mainstreamed into classes, but still have special rooms available as needed. High parent involvement. Wonderful neighborhood school consistently ranks among top three elementary schools in the district.
