Love the school. Highly involved parent body. Kind teachers in a small school enviroment. Being updated and added onto to make room for the large growth in the community.

I am quite pleased with Washington Ave. It has a small school feel and tries to maintain fairly high levels of instruction. I have found teachers to be very receptive to parental involvement. The PTO is extremely active in many aspects of the school. Third graders have access to a strings program. The computer lab is fairly up-to-date and children have ready access to it. Organized sports are not available within the school, but readily available in the town's recreation program. The art and music programs have been scaled back, but are very good. The PTO supplements with 'Art in the Classroom' programs. Overall, I think Washington Ave. is a great elementary school.

Parents now need to pay for the gr. 3 strings program. 'Nice' community, safe, sheltered. Old fashioned, teacher-centered small classrooms. Not much room for individualized instruction or innovative teaching methods. Science (when taught) is generally from a book for example. Writing and reading is stressed here, little assessment of listening and speaking skills. Kids do well on standardized tests. PTO very involved.

Washington Ave. School is a small community, has a caring staff, a new principal who is leading the school in a positive direction and families who support the school by volunteering their time and attending many school wide events. The K-3 students love learning and are kind to each other. It is a great place to be.
