My daughter just completed First Grade at Forest Edge. I was very impressed with her teacher and the administrative leadership. This school provides an excellent learning environment. Timely and appropriate communications are sent to parents.

Forest Edge may have lower test scores than a few other schools due to its social econic diversity. All in all it has more children pass advanced and fewer children fail than most others even those with much lower Free and Reduced Lunch %'s. I transferred my child there in the 1st quarter when it was determined he was 1 1/2 years below his grade level in reading and he had failed 2 of his 4 SOL's. What a difference, within two quarters, his reading DRA was at grade level and he is expected to pass in all subjects and pass advance in two. They use differencial teaching by breaking kids into groups based on skill level. Children may move to another level at any time. The principal is very open and very responsive to parent's concerns and works to partner with the parents for the good of the school.

If your child is in GT the school is okay. If your child is in community classes or special education.....find somewhere else!

Mr. Bensinger is the best principal ever. He is very involved and in monthly talks to each grade lets them know what they need to. Most of the teachers are middling to good. Some were excellent, some were poor, but none were truly awful. When I was there the band made up for in enthusiasm what it lacked in talent, and that's all I remember of the extracurriculars.
