Although I do not live in Wheeling, I currently attend Wheeling High School. Being a member on the newspaper, Spokesman, I have an opportunity to found out the truth behind what people think is actually going on. Ever since Mr. Lopez has taken over, things have been getting steadily better. I was not there before Mr. Lopez, so I do not know the quality of the school then, but I do know that Mr. Lopez has put his heart into making WHS like a second home. Test scores have improved, tardiness and absences have decreased, and we just found out today that since the administration declared 'war' on D's and F's, such grades have decreased by 23%, and they are trying to get all of us to do even better. Although we lost some great teachers, that doesn't mean that even more amazing ones haven't come along.

I have resided in Wheeling, IL for the last 23 years. I grew up in Chicago. I have sent two daughters to Wheeling HS and they both have done extremely academically and socially. The academic foundation they received at Wheeling HS, as well as diversity of the student body, have served both of my daughters well. Both have gone on to the U of IL and made Dean's List. My oldest graduated and will start law school next fall. The teachers care about the students and the school spirit for sports and after school activities is evident throughout the year. My son is in 7th grade and is anxious to become a Wheeling Wildcat.

Wheeling High School is a great school. The diversity at Wheeling shaped me into an international person. I am comfortable with all races and genders after graduating from WHS. Now, I'm at one of the top 50 universities in the nation and comfortable and friends with all races. I would like to say, NO there are not gang members here, cliques, and unsafe people at WHS. That is just a stupid stereotype made because of our great diversity. The academics at WHS were good too. I felt like WHS prepared me well for college and I have no problem so far. The real world today is made of thousands of ethnicities and races, not just one. To be successful, one must be comfortable with all races, which Wheeling High School did for me.

This school is really great. All the teachers treat all students like equal. I use to live in Wheeling and go to that high school, and everytime I pass by that town, it just sings to me that I'm home. So I recommend this school to anyone because, people are just very nice, and it is very diversed so you can meet a lot of different people.
