I have been associated with Maplewood Schools for almost 20 years; parent involvement has always been first-rate and with their priorities in check, and the teaching staff has been one of the most involved and compassionate I have seen in the county. What the school lacks is a competent board and quality administration, which has trended downward for the last 10 years and tumbled to incredible lows over the past 2-3 years. If the community doesn't act soon, the ill-effects of this board and administration will show up in staff attrition and apathy, which will then reflect through the children.

The academic programs at Maplewood are average. With a little bit of teacher initiative great strides could be made to improve their quality. Morale among both students and staff could also improve. The availability of Extracurricular activities are excellent. This is true to the point of becoming more important than the Academic programs. Some serious changes in priorities need to be implemented. Parent involvement seems to be average. This is because the same parents commit themselves to the district year after year. Although these parents do an outstanding job, there needs to be a larger group in order to improve things.

Maplewood High School is one of the best in the state of Ohio. Small town setting, great teachers, and wonderful extracurricular activities. Also, this schools' distance running program has been built to one of the best in the state, with several state championships in cross-country and track.
