We moved to Monroe from a Cath. school in OH - this is the end of our second year at Monroe. We have a child in 4th grade and the prek - k autisim program. The student/teacher ratio is fantastic <20:1 vs >30:1 in Ohio. Overall, the parent/teacher conferences are far more frequent and less rushed. The teachers we have make themselves available to work through issues with us in the classroom and via email/phone. Our 4th grader struggled with discipline issues in OH, teachers suggested he had ADD, here he is thriving, being tested for the gifted program. The autism program is fantastic! Our son was non-verbal when we arrived, he now speaks/spells/ reads/ math/plays with peers. 6-8 kids, 1 teacher, 2 aids. In OH we were shunned by the system when we introduced our ABA therapist to the IEP team. OH is 10+ years behind CA in autism education/programs/funding.

My child attended this school for kindergarden and first grade. I really thought that she was being given an education far more greater than other schools in the area. In reality, this was probably was so, but the education given was far less than what she has been given since moving to Ohio. My reason for moving was not for school purposes, but since my daughter has been attending school here, I have seen more of a higher education of learning given than what she received here. This was a huge shock to me because I did a district change because I believed that an education in the district she was suppose to go to was far less than that of this school. I thought that I was giving my daughter a better education. How wrong I was. Her education has suffered due to; I guess would be California education.
