the teachers don't 'get' these kids; there is very little personalized attention and the kids at either end of the spectrum are ignored. Sad for such a little school district!
I am the parent of a Kindergarten student at TE. I have been very impressed with the teacher's ability to meet the needs of all the students. This school has a diverse population in comparison to the other Truckee school and I see this as a great plus for the students as they learn about the world around them. The children learn a great deal of compassion towards all. The new principal is a positive addition to the school. I encourage all Truckee residents to visit the school first hand before forming your opinion.
My son is about to go into first grade and has had a few minor issues including a speech delay. Right hand left hand confusion due to being left handed and being forced to use his right hand sometime during his 2 yrs in preschool and also a minor attention problem. He has had a wonderful team helping him and getting him back on track. They have been such an encouragement to both him and to my husband and I. He is right back to where he should be in such a short time and they have made him go from being hesitant and nervous about school to loving every minute. What a blessing this staff has been. If this school scores low at all it is not due to the staff I have encountered. I noticed some kids have a low english vocabulary and parents need to be more involved.
Excellent school. We just relocated to the area and started our 3rd greater. Amazing music program for violin, viola and cello. Third grade teacher is a gem, teaching the students how to practice metacognition - thinking about their thinking. Strong parent support from a core group of parents. Very diverse.
