Some teachers are excellent, like Mr. Kieber & Mr. Thomas, and the office secretaries are very nice, but others do not give as much effort to the students. The principal, Dr. Von Sprecken, seems too focused on her reading programs. I completely agree that reading is good, but she did not give attention to other aspects of the schol and community. I often felt like my child did not get that much attention in certain great levels. I saw very few parents volunteer & for the most part the parents do not take the time to get to know their child's teacher. The students are constantly tested, and although the teachers do their best to prepare them for these tests, it seems to be lots of tests and not a lot of quality learning. I feel the school has a poor culture & sense of family.

Great teachers, I have 4 kids ages 10-16 and they all have been there since kindergarten and I love the education programs and level that it is being taught at, great resources and absolutely great teachers!

My child is in Special Education. The teachers and aids are great with the children. They strive to make sure every child reaches their individual goals and also surpass them as we all hope is possible. The artistic, musical and extracurricular activities these teachers provide is very creative at times. Especially since they are limited with the budget which is given to them. I have found that they use their own funds to enhance the opportunities for these children which to me is a God sent. Most of these children do not have the funds to contribute to a trip or even pay for school lunch. The level of parent involvement unfortunatley is minimal but they do an excellent job with each child inspite of the lack of involvement. I am very happy with the loving and caring atmosphere my child is in.

My child is in a special ed class for pre-schoolers at Salk School. Our son's pre-school teacher worked on-on-one with him to help him attain his IEP goals. I think my son's teacher is highly skilled and also very kind, patient, and understanding, not only toward the kids but also towards the parents. Working with developmentally challenged kids takes a very special person. I give credit to Salk Elementary for finding this teacher who was willing to teach, help, and guide developmentally delayed kids. However, I can only speak for one special ed teacher as I'm not familiar with the other ones. But this one teacher is very special and I'm glad my son was in her classroom at Salk.
