My child is in 6th grade and we have had a great experience at Oak View. He had some struggles with reading at the local elementary school. I met with the principal at the beginning of the year to come up with a plan for him. He has had a great year and experienced great success. It has been his bset year ever.
I have been very disappointed by the overall attitude of the current administration at Oak View Middle School. Parent involvement is not welcome, important student issues are swept under the rug, and the principal/assistant principal are not child advocates. There are some awesome teachers at each grade level who have made it educational for my children but my experience as a parent as been disheartening.
Have had a good year so far with my son. I do feel that the principal could be a little bit more accesible. The teachers are great and the assistant principal is on the ball!
Oakview Middle School, overall, is a great school. My son is in 8th grade & has been in the Newberry School system since 3rd grade. My only complaint about this school is too easy accessibility to students. Never being at the school before, I was able to check out my son with no question or request to see my ID. A bit scary in my opinion.
