I can't say enough good things about this school. I have had students there for the last 4 years and have been extremely pleased with the level of education and support they have received. It has been a wonderful environment that has provided excellent opportunities for my children. Hamilton is welcoming to new comers and has an involved parent/teacher community with strong, positive leadership. I would totally recommend this school.

Just some clarifications about Hamilton school from a more experienced parent. While it is true that there is not a cafeteria, no Elementary school in the district has one. When this school re-opened 4 years ago, parents proposed that our children eat together 'cafeteria style' so tables were purchased. Ours is the only elementary school in the district where the kids eat together (1-3, 4-5) instead of in their classrooms. Also, an April comment said there was no computer room. The computer lab is located in the 3rd/4th grade hallway with 20-25 computers. Students spend at least 1 period a week in the lab. We also have broadcast capability (5th graders write, produce, and direct 'The News') and this summer the school will install computer projection in every classroom and the Learning Center.

Currently overcrowded in Kinder & 2nd grade (25 per class at present). Check that the district has approved a third teacher for those grades. Strong school community in general. Typical in that a few very involved parents do most of the HSA work. Nice families. Teachers are good although the school does not fully utilize it's pool of parent talent. That is most likely due to the Principal (very competent, but not touchy-feely with parents). Art Docent program is interesting and the reading program is very strong (great library/librarian). Many excellent programs such as poetry readings, book clubs, science fair, school production & such. Overall, a good school with a solid educational base.

Overall high quality school with great art, music and gym programs. Reading and writing are infused in every aspect of the school with readers workshop as a core program which gets great support from staff and families. Math and science curriculm is not awful but not a focal point. Kindergrarten program is not very academic and crowded and has been changing recently. Most teachers have great reputations and academics after Kindergarten are highly regarded. No cafeteria, no computer room, shared art/music rooms demonstrate the building is small for the population. Class size is really biggest issue here with classes of 22-25 even in lower grades not uncommon. Very strong home involvement, geared to stay-at-home moms only however, leaving dads and working moms absent from leadership roles at the school. Excellent, smart and challlenging principal. A great school facing an overcrowding problem because it is so good! Schoolboard is working on it.
