Kolter Elementary is, by far, the most well-rounded and academically challenging elementary school in the area. The teachers and staff are not only accommodating to the needs of students and families, they are the type of people who leave a wonderfully positive impact on the children. The foreign language magnet program is excellent! The children learn about the world around them from different cultural perspectives and are accepting and repsectful of all people. The 'neighborhood' feeling here makes it warm and welcoming to all. Thank goodnes for choices in HISD!! We are thrilled to be part of the Kolter family.
Kolter has earned the TBEC Honor Roll 4 times. The TBEC Honor Roll is based on maintaining high levels of commended scores and achievement growth. They have been exemplary for nine years straight. Kolter has a strong partnership with parents, and from my experience the teachers work extremely hard to work with parents to meet the needs of all the children in the class, GT or not.
Kolter has been wonderful for our family. I have one child that has graduated from Kolter and two that are currently attending. My child that graduated was accepted into all of the middle schools that she applied to. I have found that the teachers prepared her well for middle school. Although the teachers certainly prepare the students for standized testing, I believe they do much more. My children come home with exciting, interesting, and challenging projects as well as the more routine schoolwork. All three are in the G/T program, but each are very unique learners. They have all done well at Kolter. Recently, I have been very happy with the growing use of positive reinforcement for discipline. The children who are behaving well are rewarded and spotlighted through different programs. We have a fabulous principal. The parents are very involved. I could go on and on.
What's not to love about Kolter? There's a great balance of veteran teachers and young teachers! The climate is friendly, but expectations seem to be high for the students.
