I am so glad to have discovered a web site such as this..it is a great tool for making good choices for your childs education. I had a child attend this school for almost a year but transferred my child to public school after I realized OCS was not a good fit for our family. If you want to understand their Christian philosophy, I guess you can read the last post below as that shows the way they handle issues.

Some kids come to OCS with baggage & needs academically that NO private Christian school is equipped to handle, so yes, that student will do better in a public school where they can receive special help. As for Christian teaching, find me a public school that begins/ends each day with public prayer; speaks of God & Christ throughout the day; problem solves using Christian principles and discussion; and exhibits an attitude of Christ throughout the day. A workbook is used for Bible class, (yes, the Bible is a 'workbook' also,) but to state that that is the extent of Christian teaching that goes on at OCS is CLEARLY the words of a disgruntled parent/ex employee who didn't get her way! How would she know the climate throughout the day? Please refer to the other reviews and not let one ex-employee taint what could be an outstanding opportunity for your child!
This school is a SDA influenced community not just a school. Many rating are based on the priority of SDA education and not reality or academics. Children do not get thorough instruction or individualized attention. The have multiple grade classrooms, so its very easy for academic issues to go un noticed, or if noticed not addressed. There are a few great teachers, but feel their talents are limited by the time it takes to teach 3 grades at a time. My child has been playing catch up after attending for 4 years. His over all self esteem, self perception and scores shot up after his transition to a public school. As far as Christian teaching other than Friday 'worship' expect a workbook. Do your research first. My family remains Christian. I'm positive God would want my son to reach his potential for education. O.C.S is not it.

I have watched students enter Olympia Christian School with indifferent or negative attitudes and in the course of 4-5 months see their attitudes totally change for the better! The proof for me is in the results of changed lives, higher test scores, and a positive environment that promotes excellence and the value of every human being as a child of God. I love the racial diversity also represented at O.C.S. Check it out for yourselves!
