I totally agree with the teachers comment that guidance begins at home. AK is a wonderful school with dedicated teachers who are there to offer extra tutoring, etc. The school is very academically competitive but the real world is very competitive as well.

I have noticed a lot of chest thumping about this school since moving here. If ALL the students were achieving at a high level then I would agree that its the best school in the district. Sadly some students don't get accepted into this exclusive club and either fail or drop out. I have to believe that most teachers actually want to teach but unfortunately dont know how to reach all students. Furthermore, because of the cookie cutter curriculum in most schools today that are intended to pump out high test scores, those who are struggling tend to drown in the system. Kudo's to those teachers that care enough to meet the needs of each and every student of different backgrounds and abilities. Is it enough to place this 3-4 yr old school at the top of the pack? Not until kids who have attended all 4 years are being tested.

I think it's sad that the #3 school in the entire state has parents giving it a horrible review. I have worked at schools in several states and AK is by far the best of the best. With a 92% proficiency rate, it's the best school in the district, rivaling Providence and many of the private schools. The teachers I know strive for excellence in their classroom and the kids rise to the challenge. Most of the kids who fail are those who lack guidance and support from their parents, not the school as EVERY, yes EVERY dept. offers before/after school tutoring. That's not a CMS thing, it's an AK thing because we want students to succeed. If you want to have your child be in a competetive, real-world challenging, yet loving environment - send them here and I'll be proud to teach em'.
I have two children the attend ardrey kell h.S. And this has been the worst school year of their life! They absolutely hate this school. Their educational needs are not being met at ardry kell, especially our child with an iep. If your child has an iep please plan on paying for outside help! The standards are set very high for the students, that the staff/teachers do not follow themselves. I wish the people who choose to teach really enjoyed teaching. That hasn't been our experience here at ardry kell h.S. The mindset for diversity is very closed and the teachers don't even bother to hide it. We will not continue to put up with this type of unprofessionalism. God bless you on your seach for the best school for your child.
