This is a school where students can be themselves without fear of being bullied for being different. LD and all students here are treated with respect by peers and staff alike. Each student's education is tailored to his/her needs and level of achievement, so every student can excel and do her/his personal best. I love this school because it works for our kids!
I am an academic tutor who works with an Alex Friends School student. I have been this young man's tutor for almost 7 years, through three schools. This year, his first at AFS, has been the most positive ever. The workload is manageable--which enables him to truly master concepts and skills. The caring community created by AFS staff has made a dramatic difference in his attitude toward homework completion and learning in general has taken a huge turn for the better. Well done AFS!
My son cannot imagine going to school anywhere else. He has always been a bit of a 'square peg' but this school makes it their business to smooth those edges. It's a confortable nonthreatening environment. This shouldn't be something that's hard to find - but it is.
Our son had difficulty at two schools that were supposed to be tailored to his needs. At Alexandria Friends, he is doing a good deal better academically and is much more comfortable with schooling. We attribute this to the caring, individual atention that he is receiving from faculty members.
