This school system does not do the best job with handling special needs kids...if you are looking for forward thinking...and mainstreaming. They have difficulties with understanding what accomodations and modifications mean when it comes to mainstreaming a special needs child. It is a very 'new' concept to them. They do not understand 'Individual Education Plans' and like to group or put kids in certain classifications and follow that for each child with similar disabilities. Some teachers do a good/fair job of giving special needs kids opportunities...others feel it is the responsiblity of the Special Ed Teacher...who like to place limits instead of giving opportunities. Administration does not like for parents to question or disagree with them. 'team' is a very difficult word for them...if you disagree with the way things are being done. They lack the ability to communicate. They prefer you not speak to teachers/aides that your child works with.
