Mrs. Kelley has never been a principal before this year. She has been a principal for approximately 12 weeks. From week one, the parents were on her about every little thing, including her tone of voice. I have taken time to get to know her. She is well-educated, hard-working, kind, caring, and competent. For the most part, this has been ignored. It is very difficult for a civilian woman to succeed in a military community. Most of our parents are wonderful, but those who are not can be truly vicious...and proud of it. I've taught at this school for 26 years. Parents come and go. The continuity of the education offered at La Mesa is not dependent upon any single group of parents. I see teachers arriving on campus as early as 6:30 a.m. and leaving late at night. How sad to ignore that.

This is a horrible school. The office staff and administration are rude. The principle seems clueless. The classrooms are crowded and dirty. If you can afford private school, please look into one.

This is a true neighborhood school (military families) and has a 'pleasantville' feel, but the school itself isn't that great. The only reason it's ranked #1 in this district is because a good 90 % of the students here have both parents with 1 or more degrees, most of which supplement their child's education at home. The school is old and looks rundown, and quite frankly is filthy. The rooms are dark and crowded as well, and the Principal (Mrs. Kelley) is awful. As for the teacher my child has, I'm unimpressed. She's impatient and exacerbated most of the time and just hands out worksheets all day. She does manage to fit in 3 recesses, though! IIf I could afford private school, I'd pull my child out in a heartbeat. On the bright side, the PTA is great and does it's best to provide what they can for our kids.

The teachers are still great but the principal(Ms. Kelly) has really turned out to be a huge disappointment. My family is very sad to see such a great school go downhill so fast. Maybe if Ms. Kelly was replaced next year, the new principal could turn it back into the school it was in previous years.
