My daughter has gone to Amador for the past 1 1/2 years. We decided to let her go on independent study part time to imrpove her study skills. The principal, Van Velsen, is wonderful! He and her counselor did everything possible to make it happen. She hopes to go back full time next year. The social atmosphere is tought for shy kids, but that is to be expected anywhere. Some of the teachers also have favorites and ignore some of the kids, which makes it difficult for the shy ones.
I feel that AHS is generally a good school. I also feel that the teachers don't pay enough attention to grades, which especially affects the kids that want to go to a 4 year college. My child has had a couple teachers make mistakes on their grades and they didn't seem to care....
I have a student at AHS. I think that the counselors need to be more positive. I feel that the school in general is very good, however, many of the teachers are indifferent about the grades. They don't give the students enough warning about their grades and the kids that want to go to college, sometimes don't know how they are doing until they get their final grades.
