AMS has been a wonderful, nontraditional school experience for our son. It's small size and student to teacher ratio make this a loving and supportive community. The campus is located in the most beautiful mountain area of the state. Our son has particularly enjoyed the hiking, biking and service learning opportunities. We see such growth and maturity, especially in areas of personal responsibility and relationships. We especially like the idea that he is being exposed to an alternate lifestyle,a simple way of living, in harmony with nature, with thought to the impact of his actions on both his small community and the world. Healthful food and no technology are a plus. We feel that sending him was the best decision for this crucial time in his development. Our other children are jealous, we wish we had discovered AMS years ago for them.

This school is wonderful! My daughter, Samantha, was a student there about 10 years ago, and now is an intern there, while taking a couple of years off before going to vet school. She is teaching math and Shakespear. The school is experiential, and teaches kids that they are responsible for learning and for their behavior. They live in small, group homes, where they help manage the budget. This means that these kids will not grow up into adults with credit problems. They also raise much of their own food. While some of the homes are vegetarian, they raise chickens and turkeys, which they slaughter and dress themselves - so they learn that food doesn't just come in packages. The learning environment is rich, and encourages creativity. The result is developing well-balanced kids with a sense of their part in the world. Academically, my daughter was well prepared, and graduated cum laude in Chemistry.
